JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2015-JEE Main Complete Guide

Joint Entrance Examination Main commonly known as JEE Main is an entrance examination for admission into Central Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) which includes NITs and IIITs, and Self Financed Technical Institutions (SFTIs) for courses B.E./B.Tech. and B. Arch./B. Planning. It is first step of two tier examination for admission into Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Candidates must comply with JEE Main eligibility criteria before filling the application form for JEE Main. The JEE Main eligibility criteria is same for both papers of JEE Main ie Paper 1 for B.E./B.Tech. and Paper 2 for B. Arch./B. Planning.

To get admission into Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) you must clear:

  • JEE Main
  • JEE Advanced ( eligibility criteria differs from JEE Main )

JEE Main eligibility criteria 2015 is the minimum requirement forwarded by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in order to be eligible for JEE Main entrance Examination. It includes candidates’ date of birth, Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination (QE), Number of subjects in the Qualifying Examination (QE) and Number of Attempts a candidates can make.

It is to be noted here that the eligibility criteria for JEE Main and JEE Advanced is not same. JEE Advanced is the next step of JEE Main. Only top 1.5 lakh candidates shall be allowed to appear for JEE Advanced 2015. 

The JEE Main eligibility criteria is same for both papers of JEE Main i.e. Paper 1 for B.E./B.Tech. and Paper 2 for B. Arch./B. Planning.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2015- Eligibility Criteria for JEE Main 2015

  • Date of Birth

Only those candidates whose date of birth falls on or after October 01, 1990 are eligible for JEE Main 2015. However, in the case of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates, upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years, i.e. SC, ST and PwD candidates who are born on or after October 01, 1985 are eligible. Date of birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board/University certificate will only be considered.

  • Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination (QE)

Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2013 or 2014; or those who are appearing in their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2015 are eligible to appear in JEE Main 2015. Candidates who passed Class 12th  examination in 2012 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2015 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE Main-2015. 

  • Number of subjects in the Qualifying Examination (QE)

Candidates must have taken at least five subjects in class 12th/ qualifying examination in order to be eligible for writing JEE Main 2015. The candidates who have taken four subjects are not permitted to write JEE Main 2015.

  • Number of Attempts

The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at JEE Main shall be limited to 03.

CANDIDATES ARE ALSO ADVISED TO NOTE AND VERIFY FOR THEMSELVES THE ELIGIBILITY FOR APPEARING IN JEE ADVANCED 2015 AS WELL AS ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO VARIOUS INSTITUTES during Counselling.
